Usk brave downpour for first performance in more than a year
USK Brass Band carried out their first public engagement for more than a year when they played outside Usk Sessions House on Monday, July 5.
It was a part of the town council’s NHS, Social Care and Frontline Workers Day plan.
Members of the public were allowed to attend the event and all safety restrictions were in place. It started at 7.30pm and at 8pm a ‘clap for carers’ took place.
James Jones, musical director of the Usk Band, said: “The weather was shocking, but in true Usk style loads of locals came out under umbrellas and the town was buzzing.
“The ovation for the band was stunning, a really humbling gig and stamped home why we do it. My suit may be ruined now, but it was the least we could do.
“We have several NHS members in the band, so well worth while!”
The Usk Band are really on the crest of a wave in the Welsh brass band scene as since their success at representing Wales in the Fourth Section at the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain in 2015 the subsequent promotion to the Third Section saw them progress to representing Wales at the National Finals in the
Third Section in 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021. What a great achievement.
Musical director James Jones is very proud of his committed players.
