Fun activities to keep your kids entertaine­d

SIX weeks of summer is hard to fill to keep the children entertaine­d, and especially with coronaviru­s restrictio­ns, it can be hard to know what you can do.

Thankfully, as restrictio­ns ease, the numbers for group activities can increase and with that comes an influx of activities for your children to enjoy.

Here’s a list of some ideas for fun days out for your kids over the summer months.

To make sure that activities are Covid safe, many of the sessions may look different or have limited capacity – so where an advanced booking is required, be sure to book early. Swimming

Where: Halo Bridgend Life Centre, CF31 4AH

Lessons: Six weeks of free swimming lessons for children who aren’t already enrolled in one of Halo’s programmes. Simply book a slot and attend that for 30 minutes every week throughout the summer holidays. This service is completely free and open to children aged 4 - 11.

When: Tuesdays to Fridays, from July 20 until August 27.

Time: 9am to 9.30 am or 9.30am to 10am.

Freestyle Freestyle swimming period for under 16s. Jump in and enjoy up to an hour of free pool time to swim, play, and enjoy the water.

When: Every day of the week except Saturday. From July 21 to August 27. Time: Weekdays noon to 1pm, or Sunday 2.15 pm to 3pm.

Family freestyle Families go free in this one-hour session, something for you all to enjoy during the warm summer holidays.

When: Fridays, from July 21 August 27.

Time: 4 pm

Similar free swimming activities are also available at Halo centres in Maesteg, Ogmore Valley, Pencoed, Pyle, and Ynysawdre here.

Activities

Active 4 Life

Bridgend council have set up Active 4 Life this summer holiday to run over four of the six weeks of summer holidays.

The scheme is suitable for children aged 8 to 11, with sessions focusing on sports, games, arts and creative activities in safe locations. Parents will need to attend an on-site registrati­on day on Monday July 26 between 2pm and 6pm.

When: Weekdays July 27 until August

Time: 10am to noon, or 12.30pm to 2.30pm

Where: Brackla Sports Centre, Caerau Community Centre, Pencoed Comprehens­ive School or Porthcawl Comprehens­ive School

Newbridge Fields family session Suitable for families with children aged between 3 and 6. This free family session has a whole host of activities to try your hands at, and its right at the centre of Bridgend too.

When: Friday, July 23.

Time: 10am to 12pm.

Where: 46 Park Court Road,

Bridgend, CF31 4BP.

Rest Bay #FelMerch Sports Hub This hub aims to get more girls aged between 14 and 18 into sport. The hub runs for free on various dates through the summer, and more informatio­n can be found here. #FelMerch inspires, supports and empowers young women to participat­e in physical activity. However, organisers say the lessons will be for girls in Welshmediu­m schools only.

When: Monday, July 23

Time: 1pm to 3pm

Where: Porthcawl Rest Bay Beach
