This development plan can be avoided
LAST week Cefn Glas received a leaflet from our local Labour councillors Jon-Paul Blundell and Charles Smith (not however representing the Labour Party – merely as council representatives) warning us all of a proposed Local Development Plan which is in its “draft” stage for 850 houses on greenfield land between Bryntirion and Laleston village.
This development can clearly be avoided if we campaign against it and our excellent delegates have personally provided a case against it: “We can argue for instance that it would obliterate ancient woodland, rights of way and open spaces, including the ‘circus field’. It would damage plant, tree and hedgerow ecology, and destroy wildlife habitat, it would urbanise a vital rural buffer at the highly populated western edge of Bridgend town, merge distinct communities, and put unbearable strain on already stretched infrastructure and public services, including schools, NHS facilities and access roads. It would encroach on the Llangewydd Road Lane, which dates back to prehistoric times as drovers and pilgrims’ way, and which residents of ours and other wards have re-discovered as an important walking and cycling route during lockdown.”
This consultation is urgent and public opinion will influence it. We are recommended to send our opinions to LDP Consultation, BCBC Planning, Angel Street, Bridgend CF31 4WB. Or contact bridgend.gov.uk
In our new green age of windmills and vegetarianism this is really something we do not want and we must guard our precious green space. Apathy is the enemy.
