Mother pleads not guilty to murdering her five-year-old son
A MOTHER accused of killing her five-year-old son has pleaded not guilty to murder.
Logan Mwangi was found dead on July 31 last year when his body was discovered in the Ogmore River near Pandy Park in Bridgend.
The young boy suffered multiple injuries including a torn liver, an internal head injury and a broken collarbone.
Logan’s mother Angharad Williamson, 30, of Lower Llansantffraid, Sarn, Bridgend, and stepdad John Cole, 39, of Maesglas, Ynyusawdre, Bridgend, have been charged with his murder.
Both defendants appeared at Cardiff Crown Court on Friday – where Williamson entered a not guilty plea to the murder charge.
Williamson and Cole both pleaded not guilty to causing or allowing the death of a child, between July 28 and August 1 last year.
Cole has previously pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice – namely, moving Logan’s body from Lower Llansantffraid to the river area near Pandy Park, removing clothing belonging to Logan to the river area, washing blood stained bed linen belonging to Logan and making false reports to police Logan was missing.
Williamson has also pleaded not guilty to this charge.
An earlier inquest opening heard a formal cause of death had not been established, but there was reason to expect Logan’s death was “violent or unnatural”.
A third defendant, who is a youth, appeared via video link from another room in the court building.
The youth cannot be named for legal reasons.
He pleaded not guilty to both murder and perverting the course of justice.
The trial of all three defendants is due to start on February 14 at Cardiff Crown Court.
