Boost for hospices in end-of-life care review
HOSPICES in Wales are to receive an extra £2.2m as part of the Welsh Government’s end-of-life care review.
Of the funding, £888k will go to the two children’s hospices – Tŷ Hafan and Tŷ Gobaith – and the remainder will be shared by the adult hospice services across Wales.
This funding is on top of the £13.8m already allocated by the Welsh Government to support the sector and strengthen bereavement support throughout the pandemic.
Tŷ Hafan and Tŷ Gobaith, Wales’, two domestic children’s hospices, provide respite and palliative care for more than 450 children across Wales with life-limited conditions. They currently receive less than 10% of their annual funding from the Welsh Government but have long campaigned for greater funding to enable them to continue providing their essential services.
Ogmore MS Huw Irranca-Davies and Bridgend MS Sarah Murphy recently visited Tŷ Hafan children’s hospice to see the incredible work they are doing to support children with life-limiting conditions – and their families, and to support them in their funding campaign.
Mr Irranca-Davies said: “I am delighted to hear this announcement which will have a marked impact on some of Wales’ most vulnerable children and their families. It’s so incredibly important that we deliver on funding for Tŷ Hafan and Tŷ Gobaith to ensure children in Ogmore and across Wales receive care when they most need it.”
Ms Murphy said: “The staff at Ty Hafan and Ty Gobaith work incredibly hard to ensure that children and their families with lifelimiting conditions get the support they need. I am delighted with the announcement of increased funding for the hospices. This will really make an impact on those children in Bridgend and Wales, who need that support.”
