Youth band set for contest

-

CITY of Cardiff, Melingriffith’s M3 Youth Band and Rhondda Fach Youth Band have come together to create South Wales Youth Band, a project band to enter the European Championships in Symphony Hall, Birmingham, at the end of April.

Since Covid restrictions have allowed (for about six months) 41 players have rehearsed together on a monthly basis, preparing the test piece as well as other pieces to perform in the contest.

Both bands have supported the young players and Angella Westacott and Carol FlanneryDavies have provided expert tuition and guidance.

Preparations are full steam ahead and last week-end saw the band rehearsing at Tonyrefail Comprehensive.

Guest conductors and tutors took sectionals and rehearsals, this was an opportunity for players to get to know each other better.

The band performed their pieces for friends and families.

South Wales Youth are delighted to be representing Wales in Europe.

What a great experience this will be for these youngsters and this event will create friendships which will probably last a lifetime because of this shared memorable occasion.

Best of luck at the contest, but make sure you all enjoy this marvellous experience.
