War of the rolls is on!
RIVALS IN SPAT OVER FOOD CHALLENGE
A “BAGUETTE war” has broken out between rival food vans over who was first to come up with a jaw-breaking eating challenge.
The culinary clash arose after the owner of Meg’s Grill & Chill in Bridgend took to social media to suggest that their competitor – Richie’s Snack Bar in Aberdare – pinched their calorific concept of serving up a monster meal for free if devoured in one sitting and within a certain time.
The spat began after Megan Israel, whose burger van is based in the car park of a Wickes hardware store, posted an image on social media of one of Richard Davies of Richie’s Snack Bar’s gigantic gastronomical creations.
The picture showed a whopping £20 fried breakfast roll filled to the brim and as long as your arm, all of which the customer gets for free should they manage to devour it onsite in 45 minutes
Megan’s post was accompanied with the words, “Look familiar?”, along with a laughing emoji.
However, Richie claimed that when he tried to respond he found himself blocked from leaving a comment on her Facebook page.
“Had a stinker off Meg last night,” he said in his own subsequent post, which has been liked several hundred times so far.
“She reckons I’ve copied her super duper famous roll and blocked me before I could even reply.
“So enjoy the fame – I will continue using my lovely fresh rolls from my local bakery and not a s****y French stick from the supermarket. FYI – I started doing these challenges in 2017, but who cares who made them first, LOL.”
One of Richie’s followers joked: “She’s also just hit Elon Musk with a copyright claim. She reckons he stole her blueprints for the Tesla.”
However, Richie was quick to add that there was no serious “beef” between them.
“No hate or malice from us,” added the 36-year-old, who’s based at Robertstown Industrial Estate.
“I was just sticking up for my business after being made to look a fool on someone else’s page and then blocked so I couldn’t even respond.
“Thank you though for directing traffic to our page – we wish you lots of luck with your new challenges.”
And Megan, whose own 4,000 calorie baguette challenge has attracted competitive eaters from all over, also conceded that any rivalry was light-hearted – even if the items on her menu were anything but lightweight.
“Not a bad price, to be fair,” she said of Richie’s £20 breakfast sub.
“Go try it guys.”
Meanwhile, one of her followers added: “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.”
