Treorchy show title class with superb 10-try victory

-

TREORCHY rocketed to the top of Admiral One East Central on the back of a 10-try 64-0 win against Rhiwbina at The Oval.

The home side, who have two crucial games coming up in the next fortnight at home against Rhydyfelin and second-placed Rumney, were in irrepressible form as they made the most of former league leaders St Peter’s slipping to a first home defeat of the season.

There were two tries each for Corey Dunn and Matthew Evans. For good measure, skipper Jacob Lloyd added seven conversions.

St Peter’s dropped from first to third due to a 20-12 home defeat to Cambrian Welfare, while Rumney maintained their grip on second spot with a 41-15 defeat of Porth Harlequins.

Tim Rogers got the first of seven touchdowns and Chris Maton converted a couple of tries, including the one scored by his brother Tom.

Penallta produced a brilliant purple patch that included three tries at the end of the first half of their 27-22 home victory over Brecon in One East.

That spell took them from 10-3 down into a handy 22-10 interval lead.

Both teams crossed for four tries.

Leaders Newbridge picked up their 13th successive bonus-point win thanks to a 73-10 success at Blaenavon, while second-placed Brynmawr won 45-20 at home to Nelson.

In One North, Nant Conwy extended their unbeaten run to 11 games to stay 15 points clear of the pack after their 61-12 home win against Llangefni.

In One West Central, Kenfig Hill put a dent in Ammanford’s title ambitions as they beat them 30-27.

With Bonymaen picking up another bonus point in a 40-21 victory over Waunarlwydd, Ammanford are now 10 points adrift of the leaders.
