The signs are that 2023 will be a very good year for Laleston Gardening Club. Some activities have already taken place and many more are in the pipeline.

Farm Organisati­on and Sue has taken the initiative and prepared an applicatio­n on behalf of the Club. If successful the grant would enable the Club to finance a further three sash windows, two in the upstairs room used by the Model Railway Club and one in the old shop.

So the message is the same for all Club activities – Be aware and book early!

Garden Waste: The garden waste service in Bridgend County Borough is due to start on March 13 and will run until November 17. Collection­s will be fortnightl­y on the same day as Kier picks up bin bags. Garden waste includes plants, flowers, weeds, grass, leaves and hedge clippings.

The service costs £46.01 per household or £41.73 for pensioners. To sign up for the service go to https://bridgend.kier.co.uk.

Almost 8,000 residents subscribed in 2022 and 1,300 tonnes of garden waste was collected for composting. Congratula­tions to Kier for providing a great service for the borough.

Bridgend Lions Charity Book Sale: The Annual Charity Book Sale at Westward Community Centre will take place on Friday, April 7 and Saturday, April 8.

Books in good condition will be gratefully received and may be taken to the centre on Sunday mornings between 10.30 and 11.30am.
