Mandy’s Platinum Jubilee party celebration was a great success last June which everyone who attended enjoyed.

Laleston Gardening Club: On March 31, chairman Sue Ford published the latest of her occasional newsletters in which she gives details of all that is being planned at Laleston Gardening Club.

These newsletters are circulated by email, post and hand delivery so the membership at large should be aware of all the events and activities that will follow.

The program of events stretches throughout the year and concludes with the annual Christmas Fayre which will take place on December

18.

According to it’s constitution the main objectives of the Club are ‘to promote the interest of gardening and to arrange for instruction in horticulture and related subjects’.

With this in mind Sue’s calendar of events in the newsletter gives particular prominence to the Annual Plant Sale to be held on May 13 and the Annual Horticultural Show on August 12.

It is hoped that as many of the

Club’s members as possible will enter exhibits and support this important annual event.

As far as the commitment to instruction is concerned Sue provides the dates of the three remaining lectures of this season’s programme.

The Ladies Section has a full programme of meetings on a wide variety of interesting topics.

Another commitment of of the Club’s constitution is to ‘arrange visits to centres of interest’.

The newsletter draws attention to the fact that Margaret Worgan,

Club President is currently making arrangements for the ever popular summer coach trips in June, July and August. Details will follow when the arrangements are finalised.

The fifth commitment in the Club’s constitution is ‘to make provision for social activities as requested by members’ and in this respect the committee comply in full measure.

Anyone connected to the Club will be aware of the themed nights that have taken place at Cliff Cottage in the last few years.

Thanks to the Events Planning

Team (Sue, Sian & Linda), there have been nights featuring Indian, Chinese, Italian and British Cuisine all of an incredibly high standard.

These ladies do not rest on their laurels and on Friday, May 5 there will be a British Pie Night, (the night before the coronation), when there will be a selection of three different pies served with chips and peas, plus a selection of desserts and a glass of Prosecco to toast His Majesty King Charles III. Apart from these themed nights the Club has hosted a whole series of coffee mornings, afternoon teas and BBQs with another one planned for July 15 featured in the newsletter.

After describing all that members of Laleston Gardening Club can look forward to in 2023, Sue wished to express the Club’s gratitude to two organisations who have made a significant and generous contribution to the on-going improvement of

Cliff Cottage. Thanks to a grant The National Lottery Community Fund six new bespoke hardwood sash windows have been installed to replace softwood windows which were rotted and in need of repair. These windows can now be opened and provide much needed ventilation.

There are four more sash windows in need of replacement and the Club has recently heard that an application for a grant from The Sun Credit Solar Power Organisation, via BAVO has been successful and will part fund these extra windows.

Laleston Gardening Club will be forever grateful to the National Lottery Community Fund and Sun Credit with invaluable assistance from BAVO.

A huge thank you must also go to Chairman Sue whose tireless work in single handedly pursuing these grant applications led to this happy outcome.
