Laleston Gardening Club: Chairman Sue and her Committee would like to offer a sincere thank you to all members of Laleston Gardening

Club who have given such wonderful support throughout 2023. Without the support, the efforts of the Committee would be rendered fruitless.

The last Committee meeting before Christmas took place on December 12 and, as normal, there was a full agenda which covered all recent events and preliminary planning for 2024.

The Christmas Dinner, held at Cliff Cottage on December 9, had gone extremely well and had received rave reviews from those who had attended. The three-course meal had been beautifully cooked by the catering team (Sue, Sian, Linda, Heather and Lucy) and the new cooker had proved to be a great investment.

In previous years the Christmas meal had been held in local hotels and establishments, but many had commented that it had been so much nicer to enjoy Christmas Dinner in the more relaxed atmosphere of Cliff Cottage with a meal that was a match for any professional eatery.

The Treasurer, Rob Stark was able to give final figures for the income and expenses for the Christmas

Fayre held on November 11. Unsold items had been left on display in

Cliff Cottage and many had been purchased by groups using the hall in the weeks since the Fayre.

A healthy profit has been realised and this is very important as the running costs of Club have increased considerably with £1,063 being paid out recently for the building insurance premium alone. In connection with the insurance renewal, it is sad to report that it will no longer be possible to have open fires within the premises.

The insurance broker for the Blandy Trust has given us notice that there are no insurers willing to insure the building if open fires persist.
