SOUND JUDGEMENT
The latest album releases reviewed
MOUNTAINHEAD Everything Everything
★★★★✩ Art rock band Everything Everything move away from the digital sound heard on their previous release in favour of a more syntheticsounding concept album.
Mountainhead tells of a society focused on building a mountain despite the build resulting in them digging a hole in which they live, and acts as a metaphor for capitalism as the labourers sink lower in dangerous conditions so the rich remain at the top.
Everything Everything continue to utilise their unique sound and avant-garde approach to music, paired with Higgs’ impressive and standout vocals, to make for another artistic piece that capitalises on their individualism.
LIAM GALLAGHER JOHN SQUIRE
Liam Gallagher and John Squire ★★★★★ The two Manchester music giants announced last month they would be combining their talents to create a collaborative album.
While Gallagher is, of course, most known for being the lead singer of 1990s Brit pop band Oasis, Squire is famed for his brilliant guitar skills, which he showcased as a member of The Stone Roses.
Their self-titled offering will sound a symphony to those who grew up on Brit pop and indie rock as the record merges Gallagher’s iconic vocals with Squire’s heavy funk-laced guitar riffs. The album is clear in its inspiration and has been executed quite masterfully. It might just be the best music Gallagher has put out since Oasis.
EASY EIGHTH Kaiser Chiefs
The name might sound lazy but the boys are far from it as they give it their all on their easy eighth album.
There is a nice variety between tracks, with a mix of heavier sounds connecting them to their indie rock origins and softer, happier songs likely to appeal to a large mainstream audience.
The lads have done it again... and made easy work of it.
