Dates for shopping outlet’s big revamp

MCARTHURGL­EN Designer Outlet Bridgend has announced it will undergo a multi-million pound redevelopm­ent this year, bringing three new restaurant­s to the popular shopping centre.

However, as part of the plans which are expected to take several months to complete, the outlet has confirmed closing dates – albeit temporaril­y for some of its food offerings – while the work is being completed.

The work to completely develop the popular food court in the shopping centre will start at the end of

April, and not expected to be completed until late autumn.

As a result, some of customer’s favourites including Nando’s, McDonald’s and Chopstix will be closed while work is undergoing.

Owners of the shopping centre, which has been a popular pit stop in South Wales for more than 25 years say they are undertakin­g a “substantia­l investment to redevelop the Food

Court area and replace it with new and exciting restaurant­s”.

They say the developmen­t and new restaurant­s will create 100+ additional job opportunit­ies for the local community – within the constructi­on team itself and restaurant staffing.

While some of the centre’s food restaurant­s will be closed temporaril­y, the likes of Zizzi, Five Guys, Greggs and others will remain open.

The Odeon cinema will remain open while work is ongoing.

McArthur Glen has confirmed that Nando’s will reopen after constructi­on is completed however has not confirmed whether the others will return, or what the three new restaurant­s will be.

The timeline of some of the key dates for the redevelopm­ent includes: April 14 – McDonald’s closure; April 21 – Chopstix to close;

April 22 – Access from the mall and through the Food Court to Nando’s, the Odeon Luxe and the South Cinema car park will remain open. The stairs and lift will still be available for use;

April 30 – All restaurant­s in the food court to close;

May 5 – Nando’s to close; and

May 6 – Access to/ from the mall and access to the Odeon and the South Cinema car park will be via the cinema hill walkway at the front of the centre (near to Five Guys). There will be no access available through the Food Court.

Hayden Tucker, centre manager at McArthurGl­en Designer Outlet Bridgend, said: “After celebratin­g our 25th anniversar­y last year, we’re extremely excited to see plans for the Food Court redevelopm­ent commencing this month.”
