a demand to extend the service. It stepped in three months ago after rival bmi British Midland dropped flights between the two cities.
Glasgow-based Loganair says Sunday flights to the Yorkshire hub will give business users the option of travelling in advance of a busy working week – while it hopes others will use the new service for a weekend getaway in either city.
the airline’s chief operating officer Phil Preston said: “We decided to introduce the additional Sunday flights to offer both our business and leisure users even greater connectivity from two of Britain’s most popular gateway destinations.”
Amanda McMillan, managing director at Glasgow Airport, said: “Glasgow and Leeds may be two of the biggest financial centres in the UK, but both areas are also popular with tourists so the addition of weekend capacity on the route is very welcome.”
For those passengers considering a trip to West Yorkshire, there is a diverse array of attractions and events on offer.
Heritage and history fans will love the Royal Armouries and the thackray Medical museum, both a short distance from the city centre.
West Yorkshire also offers a wide variety of walking trails for those who might fancy a wander to the ruined Kirkstall Abbey. Founded in 1152, it is set in a public park on the north bank of the River Aire.
