People can ask for up to six tickets per household.
Lord Provost Sadie Docherty, said: “Glasgow’s Christmas lights switch-on is always one of the most memorable days of the year.
“The switch-on is one of the most sought after tickets around and we are looking forward to another special celebration this year.
“It marks the start of the festive season in true Glasgow style – a fantastic fun-filled party for all the family.
“We h ave c h a n g e d t h e application process to make it fairer to apply for tickets. We want to make the process as quick and easy as possible.”
This year’s switch-on is on November 15 and will see George Square transformed into a winter wonderland with bright lights, a Nativity scene and a Christmas tree.
The event will start at 6pm and culminate with a firework display.
Entry will be by free ticket only.
To enter the ticket ballot people should log on to www. glasgowloveschristmas.com and complete the application form.
Anyone interested in applying, but who does not have easy access to the internet can do so at any of the city’s 33 public libraries. All library staff have been briefed about the new process and will help with applications.
Mrs Docherty added: “Some people may not have online access so it is essential we provide a means for them to enter.
“Our libraries are one of the city’s biggest resources and are perfectly positioned to help. Even if people do not have a library card staff will still help.”
