Form points to an Avon Breeze win

- Selections

IT would not be a surprise if the once-raced Avon Breeze took the Maiden over five furlongs at Beverley, where good ground is forecast.

Avon Breeze, a 25-1 shot, was slowly away in the Doncaster maiden over six furlongs, won by Signor Sassi.

Richard Whitaker’s filly recovered and finished fourth, which was a creditable effort.

The third home, Enrol, confirmed the form when winning a well-contested Lingfield maiden earlier in the week.

Elegant Girl will be backed (again) to retrieve recent losses, but Avon Valley doesn’t need to improve but surely will.

A solid each-way bet with three places on offer and likelihood of Amy Ryan not letting up for a second.

Mick Channon and his stable jockey Martin Harley have been doing well and more it is anticipated Sorella Bella will be suited by conditions of the Maiden Stakes over seven furlongs at Chester.

This is a long way for a juvenile and the 5lbs fillies’ allowance should weigh against eight rivals.

My calculation is 2lbs a length for this distance on good-to-soft ground.

Mandy Layla looks the best bet in the Fillies’ Conditions Stakes over six furlongs.

Recently Mandy Layla, in the colours of Dr Marwan Koukash, stayed on strongly under Franny Norton to land a five-furlongs nursery on this course.

Previously her only other success was over six at Hamilton.

It’s a difficult, almost overwhelming day but we’ve sorted out three good bets.

You should stick with them and indeed this column.

This is definitely our time of year for flat racing as recent results will testify. Chester 1.55 Sorella Bella (ew) Beverley 3.40 Mandy Layla (nap) 4.50 Avon Breeze (ew)
