Sons boss stays positive for points battle

- By CHRIS JACK

DUMBARTON boss Alan Adamson has urged his Sons stars to replicate their two previous performances as they try to register their first points of the season against Morton this afternoon.

It has been a frustrating start to life back in the Irn-Bru First Division for the club, with defeats to Airdrie United, Cowdenbeath and Partick Thistle leaving the Sons rooted to the bottom of the table after the opening three rounds of fixtures.

Things did not get any better in midweek as they crashed out of the Scottish Communities League Cup to First Division rivals Livingston after extra time.

Adamson insists there are positives to be taken from their recent showings, however, with the trip to Cappielow their next chance to get off and running this season.

He said: “We need to keep pushing forward and while we can learn lessons from matches played, I tend to focus on what is coming.

“Morton are seasoned First Division campaigners and, like every game in this division, will provide us with a tough match.

“We need to bring our good play that we demonstrated at Firhill and again at Livingston into a bit of consistency throughout 90 minutes.”

Meanwhile, new signing Chris Turner will need to wait before making his debut as a Sons player due to a suspension carried over from his time in Ireland.

Adamson said : “To say I’m upset about the news would be an understatement.

“Chris has been brought in for a specific role and I won’t be able to use him until at least the Livingston game next month.” Stirling and wee Fred (Fouad Bachirou) all have fantastic ability but they need steel.

“On Saturday when we lost the goal they had one player going past three of our guys as if they were not there.

“For me that is extremely frustrating.

“That is maybe a lack of experience and the likes of (Martin) Hardie coming back in will help that – he will bring a bit of steel and help the younger guys on the side. But we are not too far away and we have a good team.

“I think we will win plenty of games this season with the players we have.”
