Lewis wants to be Saints kind of guy to strike the goals

- By BERT MITCHELL

LeWiS GUy is hoping his scoring contribution against Ayr United has done enough to keep him in the St Mirren starting line-up for today’s SPL trip to Aberdeen.

The 27-year-old former newcastle player made a highly-impressive start to the season when he scored in the league opener against inverness.

But Guy turned from Saint to sinner when he received a last-minute red card for violent conduct and missed out on the Paisley club’s next three outings, before returning to sparkle in the 5-1 mauling of Ayr in the Scottish Communities League Cup second round.

With Buddies gaffer Danny Lennon having opted for a tall strike partnership of Steven Thompson and Sam Parkin in Guy’s absence, the player admits he is not guaranteed a start at Pittodrie.

he said: “it has been a fairly frustrating start. To have scored on my debut was a great way to get things going, but then to end that one with the red card was really disappointing.

“That, in turn, meant i missed the next three games and big Sam has come in and formed a decent partnership with Steven Thompson.

“Because of that i was just delighted to be back in for the Ayr game. So to score in that one was great and i was frustrated i didn’t get a second.

“But strikers are paid to score and that is two goals from two starts, so i hope the gaffer has a selection headache and my fingers are crossed i have done enough to stay in the starting team.

“The great thing for us is that we have scored in every one of the five games we have played.”

With Aberdeen having achieved a solid start to the campaign, Guy believes another tight encounter can be forecast.

he said: “Aberdeen have lost only once – to Celtic, and that came down to a goalkeeping error.

“if we can get the better of them that would give us a massive boost after scoring five the other night.”

Meanwhile, newcastle defender Paul Dummett has joined Saints on loan until January.

The Wales Under-21 left-back will go into the squad for Aberdeen pending international clearance.

Lennon said: “i first came across him a year ago but i got a call yesterday afternoon which reignited interest. it works well for both parties and i am delighted.”

Lennon also confirmed that he is looking at Franco Miranda with a view to offering him a deal.

The versatile 27-yearold Argentine, who previously enjoyed a two-year loan stint at the Paisley club, is a free agent after leaving Patronato.

Lennon said: “We will look at him for the next week to 10 days.”
