Coisty lines up training blitz during break for flops after Berwick botch

- By MATTHEW LINDSAY

ALLY McCOiST will put his new-look Rangers squad through the wringer during the international break in a bid to bring an end to their poor away form.

McCoist’s players have a fortnight without a competitive match after taking on Elgin City in an irn- Bru Third Division match at ibrox tomorrow.

And the Gers boss is looking forward to working extensively with his players on the training ground during that time off.

The Light Blues have performed poorly on the road so far during the 2012/13 campaign and the manager is keen put that right.

He said: “i was depressed against Berwick at the weekend. it was poor. it had nothing to do with going to Shielfield Park, it was just down to us not playing well.

“So many of us didn’t play well. You can get away with maybe two or three of the boys not passing the ball well or whatever, but not as many as we had. i was really disappointed.

“The energy levels against Falkirk on Thursday night were much higher and that dictated the tempo of the game. We passed the ball a lot quicker. i thought it

was brilliant. But at this moment in time, there have been different levels of results between home and away and I can accept the argument there have been different levels of performance.

“That is something I’d expect to balance out throughout the season.

“I want a level of performance in the away game coming up to the level of performance at home rather than meeting halfway. I’m hoping that will be the case.”

McCoist added: “We were supposed to be playing Queen of the South in the Ramsdens Cup next weekend, but the game has been put off.

“The boys will train. Certainly, some of them will train. There is definitely a level of fitness still required with some of the boys.

“To be fair to big Kevin Kyle and Fran Sandaza and boys like that, they are working really, really hard to catch up with their levels of fitness. That will continue. I’ll make sure that’ll continue.

“having another week of training will be a good thing because we are a completely new side. We have got two or three from last season with Carlos Bocanegra and lee McCulloch obviously, but we are all in all a completely new side.

“Nobody said this was going to click instantly and things would fall into place. That generally doesn’t happen, you have to work hard for it. That is what we will have to do.

“The spare week will give us the opportunity to work on a couple of different shapes and set plays and general things that we all look forward to working on.”
