McCOIST: I’M KNOW I’M NOT BOMBPROOF

Ally: I might be the guy wearing the flak jacket ...but nobody in this game is bombproof

- By MATTHEW LINDSAY

RANGERS boss Ally McCoist has admitted the Ibrox club CAN sack him if results don’t improve.

Many brassed-off Gers fans have called for McCoist to be replaced after the embarrassing defeat to Hibs this week.

The Light Blues crashed to a 3-1 loss at home on Monday night to fall six points behind Hearts in the SPFL Championship. But there is widespread speculation that Rangers can’t afford to pay off McCoist and his backroom team.

The troubled Glasgow giants need to bring in substantial investment soon just to keep them afloat until the end of the season.

And it would take over £1million to part company with the manager and his coaching staff if performances fail to improve. However,

McCoist, whose side face a massive match against Livingston at Almondvale today, has stressed that he is not indispensible.

He said: “I don’t think there has ever been a manager at all who hasn’t been sackable.

“I wouldn’t sit here for a minute and say I’m bombproof. I’m still wearing the flak jacket, but nobody is bombproof.”

“I have never felt under more pressure or any less pressure. I just want to get the job done.”

Meanwhile, McCoist has admitted Rangers could have to use the end-of-season play-offs to win promotion back to the top flight this season.

He said: “Relying on the play-offs is not out of the question because getting out of the division is the most important thing.”

McCoist has also stressed that Rangers are desperately in need of investment in the week that Sports Direct tycoon Mike Ashley doubled his stake in the Ibrox club.

Newcastle United owner Ashley paid investment group Hargreave Hale £850,000 for four million existing shares on Wednesday.

McCoist said: “It’s fair to say we could do with investment. It’s not my job to get that investment, but with my manager’s hat on I would gladly hope we can get investment from whatever quarter.”

Elsewhere, McCoist has suggested Hibs pair Liam Fontaine and Jordan Foster should both have been cited for their behaviour in the SPFL Championship game at Ibrox on Monday.

Rangers have accepted a two-game ban for Mohsni for lashing out at Fontaine, but have appealed against a similar punishment for Boyd for an alleged head butt on Foster.

Asked if he was surprised that two Rangers players were targeted while their Hibs counterparts escaped punishment, McCoist replied: “I should be surprised.”

He added: “Watch both incidents. Clearly the initial aggressor is neither Mohsni or Boyd.”

McCoist is hoping to have Nicky Clark and Lewis Macleod available for the game against Livingston this afternoon. The match, though, may come too early for striker Kenny Miller.
