Kiyoshi the one to beat in Sun Chariot Stakes

-

KIYOSHI is stronglyfancied to gain Group One status in the eightrunner Sun Chariot Stakes over the famous Newmarket Rowley Mile which is forecast good to firm for what promises to be an intriguing, informative seven-race card.

Following several disappointments since winning the Albany over six furlongs at Royal Ascot last year with a sensational finishing burst, the Charles Hills-trained Kiyoshi finally returned to something like her best at Doncaster 25 days ago, blitzing a strong field for the Sceptre with a tremendous late burst; Jamie Spencer was aboard on both occasions.

Seven furlongs looked ideal on Town Moor, but the racing family Hills is convinced this extra distance will be ideal.

Barry won it a few years ago with Spinning Queen, but rates Kiyoshi “a better filly!”

On the time-handicap Integral is marginally best-in, but hasn’t raced for 62 days.

At this time of year good, recent form is imperative for serious wagering and perhaps Frenchtrained Flinty will prove a danger, but Kiyoshi is definitely the one to beat if able to replicate that recent winning effort. Charles reckons “she’s in good form!”

With ordinary luck, Hills should enjoy a strong finish to the current turf-flat campaign.

Ogbourne Downs followed up the victory of unbeaten My Reward and Longside was beaten a head during the last three days, proof positive that the work and dedication of Faringdon staff is paying off.

A trainer is only as good as the staff!

Tropics, winner of the Group Three Bengough Stakes over six furlongs at Ascot last season, is one of 17 decs this time round.

If able to reproduce his best form and bounce back from a lack-lustre effort, in the recent prestigious Group One at Haydock four weeks ago, Tropics should justify my Saturday special nap selection; the hood is back on!

Luca Cumani-trained Archery Peak is also fancied to get his head in front at Newmarket.

Ogbourne Downs, 16/1, was a real beaut at Kempton on Thursday; hope you enjoyed that dramatic start to this new month.

SELECTIONS – Newmarket: 3.30 Kiyoshi (e.w.), 4.05 Archery Peak; Ascot: 3.15 Tropics (nap).
