- By CHRIS JACK

IAN MURRAY is targeting victory against Livingston to allow Dumbarton to look onwards and upwards in the Championship table.

The Sons face the bottom markers while aiming to move another step closer to retaining their second tier status for another season.

With a six-point gap to Raith, Murray’s men will need to hit a purple patch in the closing stages of the campaign if they are climb another place.

But the Rock boss is determined to finish with a flourish to reel in Rovers during the coming weeks.

He said: “Every game between now and the end of the season is important.

“We are looking up the table and trying not to focus on doing the opposite. Catching Raith Rovers is not unrealistic.

“Grabbing three points today will be very important, but Livingston are fighting for their lives so it’ll be a very hard game.”

Dumbarton will again be without defender David van Zanten as he continues his recovery from a knee injury.

In League One, Morton host Ayr United aiming to get their title bid back on track after back-to-back defeats.

The Ton have surrendered top spot after going down to Forfar and Airdrieonians and are now a point adrift of leaders Stranraer with seven games left this term.

But Cappielow boss Jim Duffy is determined his side will bounce back and breathe fresh life into their title challenge.

He said: “The players will be under no illusions that they have to be better than they have been in all departments.

“Hopefully if we do that, the fans will give us that response.

“We all have the same objective and we’re going to try and achieve it.”
