Aitken’s right on the ball for Sons

-

STEVIE AITKEN has wasted no time in building his Dumbarton squad with the unveiling of two new signings.

Following on from Ian Murray’s departure for St Mirren last week, the former Stranraer boss was unveiled at The Rock as the man to take the Sons forward over the next two years.

And, after just a day in the job, the new manager has wasted no time in tying up Gregor Buchanan and Grant Gallagher.

Having started his career in the Junior ranks at Armadale and Bathgate Thistle, Falkirk-born defender Buchanan went on to sign for Airdrie in 2012, making over 60 appearances before landing a move last term to Dunfermline.

After being released by the Pars, he has now penned a one-year deal with the Sons.

Buchanan is joined at the Championship club by Gallagher, who has followed his manager up the road from Stranraer.

Another to sign a one-year deal, the midfielder started out at as a Celtic trainee before arriving at Stair Park almost five years ago.

Aitken said: “Grant is a good player and did well for me at Stranraer.

“He’s got a great engine and will be a good asset for us in the middle of the park.”

While Buchanan and Gallagher check in, Dumbarton have announced that experienced pair Mark Gilhaney and David van Zanten have been released.
