Woman, 27, fights off sex attack pervert

- By CAROLINE WILSON

A WOMAN bravely fought off an attacker after being sexually assaulted in a city centre street.

The 27-year-old was attacked in Ingram Street in the early hours of Saturday morning.

She was walking near to the Jelly Bear cafe, when she was approached and sexually assaulted by a man at about 3.20am.

The woman managed to break free from his grip and sought help from a group of about five men who were across the road. The men offered her support and helped her get home.

The suspect then fled up Ingram Street, heading towards the centre of the city.

Police are studying CCTV images of the Merchant City and are keen to speak to the men who came to the victim’s aid.

The suspect is described as black, in his 20s, about 5ft 6in tall, stocky build and short black hair. He was wearing a dark jumper and jeans.

Detective Constable Vhairi MacDonald said: “We are looking at CCTV footage from in and around Merchant City and the city centre in order to gain additional information.

“From our enquiries so far, we know that the young woman was assisted by a group of perhaps five men, and it’s important we speak to these men as I’m sure they have in- formation that could assist our investigation.

“I am appealing directly to them to get in touch with us as a matter of urgency so that we can trace the man responsible for this crime.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact officers at City Centre Police Office on 101.

Alternatively, witnesses are asked to call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111, where information can be given anonymously.
