CCTV HOPE IN SEARCH FORMY MISSING DAD

IMAGES RELEASED OF MAN EIGHT YEARS AFTER DISAPPEARANCE ...

- By STACEY MULLEN

CCTV images of a missing man who vanished eight years ago have been released for the first time.

David Findlay left his Cardonald home at around 3pm on Monday, May 5, 2008 – and noone has heard from him since.

Another year has gone by and his devastated daughter Linda still has no idea what happened to her dad.

She has campaigned vigorously to find him and now police have released CCTV images of him shopping in Morrisons in Cardonald on the day he disappeared in a bid to jog people’s memories. The 51-year-old, from Paisley, said: “He was walking around the aisles. When he came out. They don’t know where he went.

“He came out the back end of the shop and there was no camera at the back.”

Police say the last confirmed sighting of David was around 6pm in Sauchiehall Street at West Nile Street on the day he went missing.

Officers also followed up a number of unconfirmed sightings in Cumbernauld, Coatbridge, Milngavie, Kirkintilloch, Shettleston and Kilsyth, but all attempts to locate David have proved unsuccessful.

Every time human remains are discovered, Linda, who was brought up by her dad after her mum June died when she was 12, admits she is on edge.

She said: “My dad means the world, he means everything to me. He was with me 24/7.

“It just gets you on edge when you hear these stories that remains have been found.

“It’s sad for the families but you are happy when it is not him because it gives hope that he could be out there somewhere.”

His disappearance is a story the mother-of-three, who has sons James, 28, Ross, 25, and Ryan, 22, has recounted many times.

She explained she had returned home from a weekend in Aberdeen with friends, and with the weather being so nice she had planned to contact her dad to take him out.

She said: “It was a bank holiday Monday. It was a scorcher of a day. I thought as it was a nice day, I will go up and get my Dad, and take him on a wee run. So I phoned my son James as he was staying with him. He said, ‘Grandad’s not in.”

The realisation that her dad was missing quickly set in.

David, however, experienced some odd behaviour prior to his disappearance. The father-ofthree, who also has sons David, 55, and Stephen, 49, was diagnosed with the early onset of dementia the Christmas before he went missing.

Linda said: “We found a set of keys in his fridge and thought that is kind of odd behaviour.”

It is believed her dad, who was 69 when he went missing, went for a walk on the day he disap- peared. The grandfather-of-five was 5ft 4in, of medium build and he had grey receding hair.

He was last seen wearing goldrimmed glasses, grey trousers, a brown suede jacket, a grey jumper with white and red stripes, and black shoes.

Linda, who has even been to psychics in the hope for answers, is hoping someone will remember seeing her dad and will get in touch.

She said: “It’s crazy how we have still not heard anything. Every year at this time of year as you can imagine it gets harder.

“I want closure one way or another. I will never give up hope until I get that closure. Every day I think I wonder if this could be the day we find him.”

Chief Inspector Simon Jeacocke appealed for anyone with any information to contact officers at Govan Police Office on 101.
