STRIKER CAN’T WAIT FOR OLD FIRM TEST

- By CHRIS JACK

JOE DODOO can’t wait to experience the Old Firm derby as he looks to clinch the Premiership crown with Rangers this season.

The striker became Mark Warburton’s ninth signing of the summer when he completed a move from Leicester City last week and he marked his Gers debut with a goal in the win over East Stirlingshire on Friday night.

Rangers kick off their top flight title bid against Hamilton next month, but it is the first derby day of the campaign that stands out in the opening weeks of the campaign.

Dodoo said: “I didn’t watch Rangers beating Celtic but I can’t wait to play in the first Old Firm game on September 10. It should be great. I really can’t wait.

“I’ll need to ask a few of the guys what

the occasion was like to get a heads up or maybe go on YouTube. But I’ve watched Rangers v Celtic before. When I was a young I used to watch games like that on Sky Sports all the time.

“I remember thinking how crazy it looked. You could pick up on the tension between both sets of supporters and both sets of players. When the whistle goes, the tackles fly in and you feel the rivalry.

“I thought to myself ‘this rivalry up in Scotland must be something else.’ So it will be good for me to experience it as a Rangers player.”

Dodoo spent several days training with Warburton’s side before he put pen-to-paper on a four-year deal to bring him north of the border. He turned in a decent performance in his second half cameo at Ochilview.

And after getting off and running with a debut goal, Dodoo is now in line to make his Ibrox bow when Warburton’s side host Stranraer tonight.

And the 21-year-old is determined to give the Light Blue legions something to cheer as the Gers round off their Betfred Cup group fixtures.

He said: “I am looking forward to playing at Ibrox for the first time. It’s a huge stadium. I can’t wait to see Ibrox erupt.”
