Her Terms looks nap material for Haggas at Wolverhampton

- JEFFREY ROSS

HER TERMS will sport cheekpieces (blinkers) for the first time tonight, when attempting to make it seventh time lucky in the 11-runner Maiden Stakes over five furlongs of Wolverhampton tapeta.

She was an unlucky losing nap nine days ago, this William Haggas-trained Pivotal filly was unable to get a clear run in the closing stages.

As the field came into the straight, on Chelmsford polytrack, Pat Cosgrave oozed confidence aboard Her Terms but they were constantly denied sufficient room to get a clear run.

Nowadays, there is absolutely no way experienced jockeys are going to risk suspensions by barging through. Bear that in mind when viewing the daily English racing scene.

Horse-racing is better for being policed and stewarding has improved considerably, world-wide; in the ‘golden’ olden days Cosgrave would have manipulated a way through on Her Terms but, as mentioned, times have changed for the better, in the long run.

Approaching the line Cosgrave was sitting still, just over a length behind winner, Coastal Cyclone.

Realistically, Her Terms is a ‘winner without a penalty’ and I’m determined to give losing naps another chance, when the needs are justified which means, not every one.

‘Formites’ will identify several with chances of beating Her Terms but all bar one need to improve if indeed she is able to replicate her half-length second at York back in September.

Obvious danger is twice-raced, The Daley Express, three-quarters of a length second over course and distance last month; Ed McMahon’s charge comes out similarly to Her Terms but is drawn eleven!

Haggas will be thinking of future stud prospects for Her Terms and saying, ‘just win!’

Middleham trainer Mark Johnston and his family will be extremely busy ‘breaking in’ more than a hundred yearlings for next season; in the meantime there are still a few juveniles to race and Avantgardist is worth punting in a 2-y-o Maiden Stakes over the straight Newcastle tapeta mile. What beats him will win!

SELECTIONS

Newcastle: 12.15 Avantgardist (e.w.); Wolverhampton: 5.15 Her Terms (nap); 8.45 Fleeting Glimpse (e.w.).
