Injured Ton pair give Duff concern

- By JOHN McGILL

MORTON boss Jim Duffy lamented the loss of three points at Dunfermline and was left sweating over the fitness of two key players.

The game hinged on Michael Moffat’s first-half double that moved Dunfermline off second bottom in the Scottish Championship.

Moffat netted from close range and added to that with a shot into the bottom left corner after Thomas O’Ware had missed a sixth-minute penalty.

Aidan Nesbitt’s strike halved Morton’s deficit before the interval.

However, the Pars held on for a 2-1 win and moved above Ayr United and Dumbarton in the Championship basement battle.

But Duffy was also left counting the cost to his side over injuries to Jai Quitongo and Jamie Lindsay.

Quitongo suffered a knee injury after rounding Pars keeper Sean Murdoch, while Lindsay was left with a badly swollen ankle.

Duffy said: “We will have to wait and see how they are. With Jamie it was just impact in the tackle and the boy has landed on him.

“His ankle is quite heavily swollen. With Jai he has just knocked the ball past the goalkeeper and they just collided.

“I don’t think there was anything malicious in it. But it has caught him on the edge of the knee and it has impacted. He is in a lot of pain but we will just have to wait and see.”

Duffy said the defeat had been self-inflicted after errors from Jamie McDonagh and Mark Russell led to both Moffat’s goals. But the Greenock boss praised the way both players reacted to the blunders.

He said: “They were terrific after that and showed great mental strength. But the defeat was self-inflicted.

“If you miss a penalty and then give away two cheap goals. It is hard enough to win here without handing the opposition the initiative.

“But Dunfermline were a very competitive side today.”
