We need to turn form tide at Clyde

- By JOHN McGILL

CLYDE goal talisman Peter MacDonald has admitted his team must find more consistency to end their recent form slump.

The Bully Wee were minutes away from booking their berth in the Scottish Cup draw before blowing victory against Stirling Albion.

Dylan Bikey’s late goal ensured the the team were locked in at 2-2 when the final whistle blew.

Veteran hitman MacDonald had earlier struck twice to put Clyde on the front foot before Stirling grabbed the late equaliser.

But the 36-year-old is convinced Clyde can atone in the replay next week after a poor run of games in League Two saw them slip out of the play-off zone.

He said: “I hope we can get through. Stirling are a good team with good players so we’ll need to be at it, but I think if we play the same as we did today then we can go through.

“The last five games had been poor for us, but then we’ve produced a good performance like that. We just need to find some consistency now and I’m sure that we will do.”

MacDonald admitted he is loving life at Broadwood after taking his goal tally for the season to an impressive 16.

He said: “It was a good cup game against Stirling, end to end.

“I thought we played well and dominated for periods, but they threatened a bit on the counter especially with the pace of Bikey up front.

“We lost an unlucky goal in the first half but we showed a desire to get back into it, which we did.”

With the scoreline at 2-1 to Clyde in the second half, MacDonald was brought down in the box but his subsequent penalty was saved by Cammy Binnie.

It later proved to be a turning point, but the 36-year-old didn’t want to dwell on it.

He added: “It happens, that’s football. I caught it well but the keeper made a great save.

“He said to me afterwards that he’d been watching my penalties so I’ll maybe need to change them up!

“If there is another one I’ll step up straight away to take it though.”
