Ban for driver five times over drink limit
A MAN who was still five times the legal drink limit nearly a day after he was boozing has been banned from the roads for two years.
Robert Fairie, 25, had plead guilty to drink driving on Kilbowie Road near Kilbowie Business Park at around 5.30pm on November 13 last year.
At Dumbarton Sheriff Court, defence solicitor Judith Reid said the social work report into Fairie was “glowing”, showing a “total lack” of previous convictions and an incident “totally out of character”.
Sheriff Maxwell Hendry noted Fairie woke and decided to drive home.
“It’s not a morning after, it’s not an afternoon after – it’s an even- ing after and it’s five times the legal limit,” he said.
“That’s mindboggling as to how much alcohol must have been consumed.”
Ms Reid said Fairie’s employer was willing to keep him on, but would pay less as he was no longer able to drive.
The £10,500 car he was driving was slightly damaged and had not been repaired since the incident.
The car is heavily financed, she added
As well as being disqualified for two years, Fairie, of Heatherbell Road, Coatbridge, must pay a £725 fine.
Fairie must also take part in a drink-drive rehabilitation course, which could mean a six-month discount on his disqualification.
