Summer music festival headstoGlasgowGreen

A NEW three-day Glasgow music festival which will take place this summer has been launched online.

A website and social media account for TRNSMT (pronounced Transmit) Festival, appeared yesterday.

It has announced that the event will take place in Glasgow Green over three days from Friday, July 7 to Sunday, July 9.

Details regarding the festival, including line-ups, have yet to be revealed but fans have been invited to sign-up to the website to receive the latest news and pre-sale transmissions first.

T in the Park organisers DF Concerts confirmed that they are behind the launch but could not disclose any further information.

The festival will effectively replace T in the Park, which announced it would be “taking a break” from its usual summer slot in November last year.

The news came after the event moved from Balado to Strathallan Castle, where it was hit by several problems and controversies.

A statement released at the time said: “For over 23 years, T in the Park has been at the heart of Scotland’s music scene – with you, by our side. But for now, sadly, we need to take a break.”

Despite the statement adding that planners were aiming to “deliver the kind of camping festival” fans were used to in the future, it is thought that TRNSMT will be a non-camping event, aimed at an older age demographic. So far, acts including Coldplay and Radiohead have been tipped as potential headliners.

Glasgow Green has previously played host to the popular Gig on the Green which saw a selection of artists take to the stage including The Strokes, Eminem and Marilyn Manson.

More recently, it was a key feature in the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Evening Times readers voted to have the 18 feet-high 3D ‘Big G’ sculpture to be permanently installed in the Green in July, 2016.
