Killie boss says he’s spoiled for choice of keeper

- By STEWART FISHER

LEE CLARK admitted last night he is agonising over whether to field Jamie MacDonald or onloan new boy Freddie Woodman in goal against Ross County this weekend.

While the 30-year-old former Hearts goalkeeper has been a model of consistency for Kilmarnock in the past 18 months, 19-year-old Woodman arrives with a big reputation on-loan from Newcastle United.

The former England youth cap played in the Scottish Cup defeat to Hamilton Accies but did his chances of retaining the jersey no harm with his performance.

“I said to Jamie at the time that even if I hadn’t signed Freddie I would have played young Devlin Mackay if he was available because I need to know I have two goalkeepers who can handle playing i n the first team,” said Clark.

“I did that with Oliver Davies in the League Cup. And that would have been Devlin if he hadn’t got that hip injury. He and Jamie would have shared the four games in the League Cup.

“I think Freddie’s level of performance in the Cup game showed what he is about,” the Kilmarnock manager added. “He was excellent. He has given me a big prob- lem for the weekend, but it is a good one for any manager. I prefer these problems where I have two players showing the right stuff.”

Kilmarnock’s defeat to Accies was the latest instalment of a sevenmatch winless run and Clark believes he and the players now owe their fans a performance.
