ers in a position they don’t want to be in.

If Barrie makes it clear he won’t sign on again, then Rangers would need to look to sell him in the summer to maximise the transfer fee.

Barrie is a young lad who has come through the Rangers system and if they do get a couple of million for him then that is what the business model is all about.

But the directors will see that situation differently than the manager. It is the manager that has to get results and he needs his best players on the park. If he doesn’t do that, he is out the door.

It is fine having a business model, but if you sell all your best players and don’t win anything then you are the one that will get the bullet.

Also, the fans want to see a winning Rangers side and that means keeping their key men, unless it is a deal that you just can’t turn down.

Everyone knows what the model has to be for Rangers but the manager will always want to keep his top talents and Barrie McKay is one of Rangers’ best players.

The board and the manager can say what they want, but if the player wants to move on then it is up to the club to get the best deal that they can and wish him well. FOR the first 45 minutes at Ibrox last weekend, Motherwell played nonfootball. They just defended.

I have nothing against that. Motherwell didn’t go to Ibrox to entertain, they were there to stifle Rangers and try and snatch a win or, at least, get a draw and get the replay at Fir Park that would have earned them a few quid.

They played the game the only way that they could in the first half. They got back, gave Rangers no space and they made it difficult for us.

The onus was on Rangers to break them down and it didn’t happen. At half-time, Motherwell would have been delighted.

It could have been different if Michael O’Halloran had been awarded a penalty and how it wasn’t given was beyond me. It was a scandal.

That could have changed the game and changed Motherwell’s thinking. In the second half, they opened up a bit and I thought the second 45 was terrific.

They got the lead against the run of play and that sparked Rangers into life. I have heard how Kenny Miller got us out of jail but Rangers proved that they will keep going right until the end.

Mark McGhee said he was speechless after the game. Could he speak after losing 9-0 at Parkhead a couple of years ago? Or after Motherwell got beaten 7-0 by Celtic last season? I didn’t get that comment from him.

Ultimately, Rangers deserved to win. Motherwell may have felt they played well and that they were unlucky, but good teams go until the end and do what they have to do to win the game.

Rangers are now going to Fir Park full of confidence tomorrow. They have to make the most of it and get another win on the board.
