My poor Staffy is suffering from terrible skin allergies

-

MY Staffordshire Bull Terrier has really bad skin allergies. She’s currently on steroids but still scratches a lot and has bald and thin patches all over. It’s become so bad she’s destroyed the follicles and her hair won’t grow back. What can I do to help? SKIN problems can be devastating for both pets and their owners, and they can have a huge impact on quality of life. If your dog’s symptoms haven’t improved on the current medication, then you need to go back to your vet and they may undertake further investigations to determine the cause of the allergies or change the treatment. Allergies can be caused by many different factors and finding out exactly what the problem will require time and patience. Your vet may recommend seeing a skin specialist. CAN goldfish communicate with each other, and how? ALTHOUGH some fish can make noises, body language is an important form of communication for fish. If they are behaving in a certain way (e.g. feeding) other fish are likely to recognise this and join in.

However, there are other fascinating ways fish communicate, such as appearing brighter in colour, flaring gills or puffing up. Communication is particularly important to species that live in large groups. Some, for example, may use pheromones (special chemical scents) to communicate , whilst others use sound. It’s a great question and a zoology textbook or a specialist website would be able to give you more information. MY cat is in the early stages of pregnancy, but is bleeding a little. Do I need to do anything about this, or will it stop? YOU should take your cat along to see your vet as soon as you can, as there are various things that can cause bleeding during a cat’s pregnancy.

It may be that the blood is coming from her bladder, due to a condition such as cystitis, especially if you see the blood when she has been to the toilet. This condition would need to be diagnosed and treated as soon as possible before it gets worse.

The blood may be from her uterus if she is having a problem linked to her pregnancy.

Whatever the cause, it’s important to get her checked by your vet, so book an appointment as soon as you can.

I would also recommend that you consider neutering your cat as soon as the kittens are weaned, as it not only has important health benefits, but it can be difficult to rehome kittens to good homes, bearing in mind the thousands of abandoned cats already in rehoming centres.
