He’s A Lad should be worth waiting for at Lingfield...

- JEFFREY ROSS

HE’S A LAD finally makes his reappearance in the sevenrunner 3-y-o Maiden Stakes over a mile of Lingfield polytrack this afternoon.

It’s 207 days since we noted Andrew Balding’s charge making a promising debut fifth on a ‘good’ surface at Windsor in a competitive, fast-time, six furlongs sprint won by Kodiline.

At least SIX winners have come out of that race!

An absence is a matter of indifference with this yard because Balding is extremely patient and never sends a thoroughbred to races needing a run; fitness won’t be at issue and on the timehandicap He’s A Lad has a gilt-edged opportunity in what promises to be an interesting dash round those bends.

‘Lingers’ is all about speed, getting a decent ‘pozzy’ and no one better than stable jockey David Probert, a real ‘favourite’ in my book, so consistent, dedicated and, most importantly, he looks the part.

‘Probe’ could definitely be champion with a high-profile ‘fashionable’ trainer but, not surprisingly, he’s happy to be ‘number one’ with Balding who has backed David since he was apprenticed alongside William Buick all those years ago. Doesn’t time fly?

Hopefully this ‘Lad’ will and give our column a ‘super-Saturday’ with another good-priced winner.

Earlier this week Poyle Vinnie (5/1) and Mum’s The Word (13/2) were ‘beauts’ which gave DAILY PATENT backers more than FORTY POINTS profit as we end January with a bang.

Every month DP rewards readers, why bother to look elsewhere?

Clouds and Smad Place are expected to fully test current Cheltenham Gold Cup favourite Thistlecrack on Prestbury Park over three and quarter miles.

In addition to Grand National hero Many Clouds and Smad Place, winner of this race last season, dual ‘King George’ scorer, Silviniaco Conti, is declared; how good is unbeaten Thistlecrack, winner of the ‘World Hurdle’ and unbeaten over fences since being switched?

We will definitely have a good idea about 14.30!

What a fantastic day to relish, enjoy it!
