Baz backs Finnie to bounce back

- By STUART McDONALD

BARRY Ferguson hopes Ryan Finnie will learn from his “moment of madness” after Clyde’s League Two play-off hopes suffered another blow with defeat to Arbroath.

Peter MacDonald’s second-half strike cancelled out Colin Hamilton’s opener before the interval.

And then just when it seemed like the Bully Wee would take control at Broadwood, Finnie saw red seconds after MacDonald’s equaliser.

He had already been booked in the first half for simulation.

And he was dismissed after petulantly booting the ball after a free-kick was given.

Arbroath capitalised on the extra man by scoring what proved to be the winner when Ricky little headed in Bobby Linn’s set-piece.

The result continues a miserable run of form for Ferguson’s side who are now six points off a play-off berth.

He said: “It was a moment of madness when Finnie got sent off and then someone lost their marker at the second goal. When we went down to 10 men it was basically game over.

“But all you can do is hope that Ryan learns from it and it doesn’t happen again.”

Ferguson is now focusing on tomorrow’s night’s Scottish Cup fourth-round replay against Stirling Albion.

But he admits he’s facing having to field a patchwork team with fitness doubts surround seven first team regulars. He added: “We are down to the bare bones fitness-wise and Ross Perry and Phil Johnston are cup-tied.

“But I am sure the boys who do play will give their all. I have never complained about their performances recently but we are not getting results.

“Silly mistakes are costing us.”
