Tavmissionto avengeHearts horror night...

- By CHRIS JACK

JAMES TAVERNIER hopes Rangers can make amends for their Tynecastle horror show when they face Hearts on Wednesday night.

Mark Warburton’s side crashed to a 2-0 defeat to the Jambos in November as they turned in their worst performance of the campaign.

The Gers will return to the Capital this week as they look to extend the gap to Ian Cathro’s side in the Premiership standings and build on their back-toback wins over Motherwell.

Tavernier had a night to forget in Gorgie as Robbie Muirhead scored twice but he is confident there will be no repeat on this occasion. He said: “We were disappointed last time, coming away from

there with that result and the performance.

“But we then got the better of them at Ibrox, so we know we can beat this team.

“[We have to] just keep the ball well. It will probably be the first time for a lot of the players, going there with the fans on top of you.

“But the guys will soak it up, and if we play the way we did [on Saturday] then teams can’t live with us.

“There has been progress since the start of the season. We all know we started the season slowly, and some people can get frustrated if we are not putting the goals in at the start of the game.

“But it is about the consistency in keeping the ball when teams are tiring. It proves, in these games when the goals have come late, teams can’t defend the whole 90 minutes against us.”

Rangers will head to Tynecastle second in the Premiership standings after they marked their return to league duty with a 2-0 victory over Motherwell on Saturday. Goals from Kenny Miller and Emerson Hyndman were enough to see off the Steelmen after Michael O’Halloran and Scott McDonald were given first-half red cards.

And Tavernier was pleased with a solid showing from the Light Blues as they moved back above Aberdeen.

He said: “I thought it was a brilliant result. We controlled the game, even when they had 11 men and we were down to 10 men. Then it probably played in our favour they went down to 10 men.

“I felt from the first minute we moved the ball well but then maybe got a little bit sloppy in the first half, which we corrected in the second.

“It was all about taking chances, and we knew they’d get tired and we capitalised on it.”
