Parkhead boss won’t put time limit on job

- By SCOTT MULLEN

CELTIC will be hoping manager Brendan Rodgers never leaves Celtic given the incredible start to his tenure at Paradise.

But the man himself has stressed he refuses to put a time limit on his stay in Glasgow as he eyes bigger and greater things for the Premiership Leaders.

A 27-point lead as well as Betfred Cup and Champions League participation already in the bag, the 44-yearold’s appointment has been nothing but a triumph for the Celtic board.

Former Hoops legend Davie Provan said earlier in the week he feared Rodgers would soon be swayed by the lure of a big club in England, but the man himself says it’s not a prospect that’s crossed his mind.

“I never worry about that now,” said Rodgers.

“Listen, I was at Liverpool. When we took over they were eighth.

“In my second season we finished runners-up in the title.

“We scored 54 goals more than we did the previous season, over 101 goals.

“We reached the Champions League, we were at the top of Europe because of our level of football and I signed a new deal for four years in the June.

“By September people were saying I should get the sack. That’s modern football.

“I will never sit and promise I will be here for 10 years, five years, six months. I never say nothing.

“I just do the very best I can for however long that is.

“If that’s for the next six months or another two years, let’s see what happens.”

He added: “Modern football can change very, very quickly.

“You can make all the statements you want. As a manager, you’ve just got to win games.

“The minute I’m not wanted here I’ll be gone.

“All I can promise is to fight to give Celtic the best I possibly can.”
