Five in court on charges after Old Firm match

FIVE men have appeared in court charged with offences relating to the Old Firm match.

Steven Malaney, 24, Derek Martin, 26, Christophe­r Pollock, 21, Colin Hoodless, 39 and Ryan Maclellan, 18, face charges contrary to the Offensive Behaviour at Football Act.

They each appeared from custody at Glasgow Sheriff Court yesterday to deny charges said to have taken place on March 12.

Celtic and Rangers drew 1-1 at Sunday’s match at Celtic Park.

Malaney, from Clydebank, West Dunbartons­hire allegedly repeatedly shouted and swore and did “utter sectarian, homophobic and threatenin­g remarks” at the stadium.

Martin, from Dalmarnock, Glasgow, is accused of shouting, swearing and repeatedly making racist remarks at Westmuir Street while travelling to the game.

He also faces a charge of repeatedly shouting and swearing and uttering abusive remarks while travelling in a police car between Westmuir Street and SECTARIAN and offensive graffiti scrawled in Glasgow is being investigat­ed by police.

Members of the public spotted the foul scribbling on a number of buildings in Nelson Mandela Place and Glassford Street over the weekend.

The remarks, which read ‘Hun scum’ and ‘RIP RFC’ appeared on several derelict buildings.

A Police Scotland spokeswoma­n said is the force is aware of the graffiti and investigat­ing. Cathcart police office. Pollock, from Armadale, West Lothian allegedly shouted a sectarian remark towards opposition supporters and Hoodless, from Gourock, Renfrew is accused of singing sectarian song lyrics and gesturing in an aggressive manner towards opposition fans, both at Celtic Park.

Maclellan from Lesmahagow is accused of repeatedly shouting and uttering offensive remarks at London Road, near the Parkhead stadium.

The men were all released on bail. Trials were set for August.
