Man sent to prison after city car crime rampage
A MAN was locked up at Glasgow Sheriff Court after he pleaded to a swathe of charges including stealing cars after breaking in to houses, resetting number plates and driving dangerously.
David Callander was jailed for 17 months after admitting to 15 charges in 2016 involving cars.
The 30-year-old admitted that between February 22 and February 25 at Berneray Street, Ashgill Road, Balmore Road and Glasgow Road he reset a set of registration plates of a car.
He further admitted that on February 22 on Tesco at Tryst Road, Cumbernauld he stole a quantity of fuel.
Between February 22 and February 25 on Berneray Street, Ashgill Road, Balmore Road, Glasgow Road and elsewhere in Glasgow he admitted reset registration plates.
On February 25 on the same roads as previous charges he admitted to driving dangerously and driving at excessive speeds, failed to stop when requested to do so by police, overtaking vehicles, causing other drivers to take evasive action to avoid a collision and failing to stop at red traffic signals.
Callander also admitted to driving a car with a revoked provisional licence and without insurance.
He also admitted to setting fire to a car on July 9 at Auchinnairn Road. On August 8 at Cumbernauld Road he reset the licence plates of a car he acquired by breaking in to a house which he pleaded guilty at the sheriff court.
On the same day at the same address he also admitted resetting the plates of another vehicle which he also obtained by breaking in to a house. He also admitted to resetting the licence plates of a car he stole by breaking in to a house on June 23 in Closeburn Street.
He also admitted to resetting licence plates of another car he appropriated by housebreaking at N&S Motors Limited on 52 Boghead Road on November 15. He further admitted to charges of stealing fuel, driving without holding a licence as well as no insurance. He further admitted that between November 13 and December 2 he repeatedly contacted Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and gave false reports of fires within high rise flats.
Sheriff Scullion sent Callander to jail and disqualified him from driving for three years.
