Drink-drive suspect nodded off at wheel

A MAN fell asleep at the wheel of his car as police suspected him of drink-driving.

John Just was sentenced at Glasgow Sheriff Court after assaulting a police officer and failing to provide breath samples to police.

The court heard that on September 20, 2016 at 9.40pm on the 29-year-old was observed by police driving passed them with the boot open.

When the police then approached the accused after the car had stopped, they could smell alcohol coming from him.

The accused then fell asleep at the wheel in front of police.

He was arrested at 10pm on the same night.

Just admitted that on Septem- ber 20 he asaulted a police officer by head butting him on the head.

He further admitted to failing to provide two specimens of breath for analysis to ascertain the proportion of alcohol in his system.

The court also heard that in a separate incident on August 20 last year police attended to the accused when he was under the influence of alcohol. Police approached him to check up on him.

Just admitted that on August 20 last year he assaulted a police officer by attempting to headbutt him.

He was sentenced to carry out a total of 188 hours of unpaid work and was disqualifi­ed from driving for 19 months.
