£30m for Moussa is a Mo brainer

- By NEIL CAMERON

MO JOHNSTON has insisted nobody should mock Celtic putting a £30m transfer fee on the head of Moussa Dembele.

The former Parkhead striker might not be seen as a favourite to any of his former fans given what he did in 1989, which will forever be the case, but he has been impressed by how his old club has been run in recent years.

Johnston believes Celtic have a superstar on their hands in the young Frenchman who has caught the eye of the American-based ex-pat.

He said: “I like Dembele. He’s the real deal, a right good player.

“He’s only 20 and while people will laugh at the £30m figure, there have been players bought for £50m who have done nothing.

“So if Celtic can get that amount of money for him, then good luck to them.

“I am not sure you can judge any player in terms of what they are worth. If somebody is going to pay that amount of money then that’s what they are worth, and if it’s a Barcelona or Real Madrid that comes in, you will get that £30m.”

Johnston believes Celtic are in a “different class” right now and need challenged.

He said: “I would say yes, Scottish football needs a strong Rangers.

“Rangers being no good is what has been hurting the national team for the last four or five years.

“But Celtic are so far in front of the rest that it’s not even funny. Brendan Rodgers deserves huge credit but it’s not going to help them if nobody is pushing them.”
