AWOMAN has been jailed after she handed over heroin worth more than £350 to a Barlinnie Prison inmate she was visiting.
Natalie Dixon, 35, went to the prison with a six-year-old child.
She was seen kissing her partner goodbye and placing a bag in his trouser pocket.
Crime Reporter A WOMAN has been jailed after she handed over heroin worth more than £350 to a Barlinnie Prison inmate she was visiting.
Natalie Dixon, 35, was in the dock at Glasgow Sheriff Court for sentencing after she pleaded guilty to the offence.
The Procurator Fiscal depute told the court that Dixon had visited her then partner at the prison at around 1.45pm on October 12, 2015.
The court heard that she attended the prison’s North Visit Room with a six-year-old child.
Two prison officers on duty noted that Dixon put her hand in her right trouser pocket which contained a polythene bag filled with brown powder.
She was then captured on CCTV kissing her then partner goodbye and placing the bag in his left trouser pocket.
She was detained by prison staff and police were contacted.
She was taken to London Road Police Office where she was cautioned and charged, and made no reply.
The Procurator Fiscal depute added that the drugs were tested and it was confirmed that the substance was diamorphine, also known as heroin.
There was a total of 10.65g of heroin which carries a street value of between £350 and £400.
Dixon’s defence agent said his client accepted that the charge was a serious one and he added that this was reflected within the Criminal Justice Social Work report.
He said that his client’s partner at the time had been encouraging her to take the drugs into the pris- on, which is situated in Glasgow’s Riddrie. He explained that Dixon, of Cramond Way, Irvine, was no longer in touch with the partner in Barlinnie.
The court heard that Dixon herself had been free of drug use for eight years with the exception of a slip-up.
Sheriff Ian H L Miller explained that he had taken into consideration the amount of drugs involved and the location of the offence before sending Dixon to prison for 250 days.
This was reduced from 300 days because of her early guilty plea.
