MYLES BEERMAN insists he will be ready and raring to go if called upon for Old Firm action this month.

The left-back made his Rangers debut on Wednesday night as Pedro Caixinha’s side were held to a goalless draw by Kilmarnock.

Boss Caixinha was without Lee Wallace, Clint Hill and Lee Hodson for the Rugby Park clash and also handed a start to Under-20s stopper David Bates.

Wallace faces up to four weeks out of action after going under the knife to solve a stomach issue and that leaves Caixinha with a selection dilemma for the Scottish Cup and Premiership double-header against Celtic.

Beerman turned in an impressive showing on his Light Blues bow and would have no qualms about being asked to step in to replace his skipper on derby day.

He said: “Lee’s a great guy and with his injury and everything he really encouraged me and gave me tips for the game, to keep focused on the game

and make sure I do my best and play for the badge.

“I’d definitely love to be involved [in the Old Firm game]. I keep working hard and do my best and it’s the manager’s decision.

“All I can do is work hard, show what I can do and perform. I’ve just got to make sure I’m ready for it.

“No matter your age or physicality, you’ve got to be ready mentally when the manager needs you as a Rangers player.

“You’ve got to be ready to go out there and perform, no matter the circumstances.”

It was a frustrating evening for Rangers as they followed up Saturday’s stalemate against Motherwell with another costly Premiership draw.

Beerman discovered on Tuesday that he would be making his debut as Caixinha revealed his starting line-up at his pre-match media conference.

And the 18-year-old savoured the experience as he helped the Gers keep a clean sheet and looked to make an impact in the final third.

He said: “It was different class. It has always been my dream since a young age to become a professional footballer, this little kid from Malta, just driven and determination and hard work and always stay focused and concentrated.

“Making my debut for such a massive club with such massive history, you can’t describe how I’m feeling right now.

“That was how we found out but we believe in our manager and his actions and at the end of the day it’s Rangers Football Club and we have to do whatever is expected from the club to win games and keep the reputation of the club high.

“It was one of them where us as Rangers players should know and feel the same whether he announces the team the day before the match or an hour before.

“We should stay focused and keep our head in the game and make sure we perform.”

The performance of Beerman was one of the few positives for Caixinha to take from Rugby Park as Rangers dropped two more Premiership points.

And the Malta youth international hopes it will be the first appearance of many as he made his first team bow less than a year after moving to Ibrox.

Beerman said: “I was back home on international duty in September and I got and phone call from my agent on transfer deadline day to say Rangers were interested.

“Obviously, I was with Man City but this was a brilliant opportunity for me. People might have thought it was a downgrade for me to move from Man City to Rangers but Rangers are a massive club with a massive history and it was a step closer to first team football for me so I took the opportunity.

“When I came at first I came with one indication and mind set to keep working hard and doing whatever it took to get into the first team.

“I’ve been playing Under-20 football all season but my main target and focus in my head was to make my debut and keep working hard to progress my career.”
