Del: Euro tie can’t come fast enough...
DEREK McINNES last night assured Aberdeen fans every base will be covered in their bid to get through their Europa League second round qualifier.
The Pittodrie side will play either Kazakhstan’s Ordabasy or Siroki Brijeg of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the draw made yesterday in Lyon.
McInnes said: “We are really excited about embarking on another European campaign.
“We will obviously have both legs watched from the first round game and will be treating whoever we get with the utmost respect.
“If it does happen to be a trip to Kazakhstan again, the game will be in Almaty so it won’t be a new experience for us.
“There will be a familiarity about it. Also if it is Ordabasy who we play, it is important to remember that unlike last time when we travelled to play Kairat Almaty, we will not have a domestic game immediately after the long trip so that would be a huge bonus. It can’t come soon enough and we are really looking forward to the new season getting underway.
“The main thing between now and then is for us to do our homework so we know everything we need to know about both teams. We will do our work so we are ready and prepared to play whichever team makes it through to round two.”
Scotland’s other representative in the competition, St Johnstone, were drawn to play Luthuanian side FC Trakai.
Tommy Wright’s men will play the first leg at McDiarmid Park on June 29 before travelling to Lithuania for the second leg on July 6.
If St Johnstone negotiate this first round, they will then face either IFK Norrkoping of Sweden or Prishtina of Kosovo.
