Alex: I’ll try to atone for fluffed goal attempt...

- By CHRIS JACK

ALEXANDER Karapetien is determined to make amends for his Ibrox miss when he gets another crack at Rangers tonight.

Pedro Caixinha’s side face Progres Niederkorn in the second leg of their Europa League qualifier at the Stade Josy Barthel in Luxembourg.

The Gers go into the match with a 1-0 advantage thanks to Kenny Miller’s first-half strike at Ibrox on Thursday.

But the tie could have had a far different complexion had Karapetian netted with Progres’ best opening of the evening.

The striker couldn’t capitalise on some slack defending from the Light Blues as his shot was blocked by keeper Wes Foderingham.

But he hopes he will get a chance to atone for his miss as Progres look to upset the odds and set up a second round clash with AEL Limassol.

He said: “Five days ago it was a great chance for me. If I get another chance tonight I will try to score it.

“It was not so difficult but it was not a 100 per cent chance to score. Rangers are a strong, physical team.

“But our players were hungry and sometimes the mental side is more important than the physical part. We hope we can repeat our display from the first game.”

Rangers are overwhelming favourites to make it through as Caixinha’s new look side attempt to build some early season momentum.

And Progres boss Paolo Amodio admits the hosts face a tough task as they eye a historic Euro triumph.

“He said: “If we could win 1-0 that would be a great moment for us.”
