SCALES OF JUSTICE Drunk caught with a blade in his waistband

A MAN was sentenced at Glasgow Sheriff Court for having a knife on him in a city hospital.

Scott Smith had a kitchen knife under the waistband of his shorts when receiving medical attention.

The court heard that the 31-year-old was attended to by police after officers received a report of the accused lying slumped on the ground. When they saw Smith, officers contacted the ambulance service and he was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

When he arrived at the hospital paramedics then carried out an examination.

It was then they found a blackhandled kitchen knife in the waistband of the accused’s shorts.

After being released from hospital later the same day he said to police: “I cannot even remember being in hospital.”

He admitted that on June 28 this year at Muirbank Road and Queen Elizabeth University Hospital he had a knife in his possession.

Smith’s defending solicitor said his client had a severe alcohol problem and was very drunk at the time of the incident.

He went on to say that his client was totally ashamed by his behaviour.

Smith, of Berelands Crescent, Rutherglen, was ordered to carry out 170 hours of unpaid work and was placed under supervision for a year. He was also tagged for a period of three months.
