Driver threatened by hammer thugs

-

A DRIVER was boxed in and threatened with a hammer by thugs who stole his car keys in Rutherglen.

The 42-year-old man was driving his black Vauxhall Insignia around 12pm on Thursday along Woodside Avenue when he was boxed in at the junction of Selkirk Drive by a dark coloured Vauxhall Mokka and a silver Vauxhall Corsa.

A man wearing a yellow high vis vest approached the car and struck the windscreen and passenger door with a hammer.

At that time, the driver of the Vauxhall Corsa got out and tried to climb into the rear of the Vauxhall Insignia before the man, wearing high vis threatened the victim and demanded money, prior to stealing the driver’s keys.

The driver of the Vauxhall Corsa got back into his car and drove off and the man wearing high-vis then got into the Vauxhall Mokka before making off.

The car keys have since been recovered however officers are reviewing CCTV footage and making door to door inquiries.

Detective Constable Martin McKissock, of Cambuslang CID, said: “This robbery was clearly a planned and targeted attack and it is imperative that we find those responsible.

“The robbery took place in a densely residential area, however there is a veterinary centre and grocery shop near to where the incident took place.

“We know there were people in the area at the time of the incident and in particular we would appeal to a woman who got out of a dark coloured car with a red roof to come forward as we believe you may be able to assist us in our inquiries.”
