Derby win would top the lot for Forrest

- By ALISON McCONNELL

JAMES FORREST will look to round off 2017 with a win over Rangers on Saturday afternoon.

The Hoops winger has been arguably Celtic’s best player this season and will look to continue his form as the Parkhead side clock off for a mid-season break.

Brendan Rodgers’ men will down tools after the game at Celtic Park and Forrest believes that if the Hoops hit their stride that there are few teams who can live with them.

“When we play at our best then it will be hard for anyone,” said the winger. “But we need to start well and work hard. We know it will be tough but we will be ready.”

While Celtic do not appear to have hit the same fluency on the pitch that they did last term, Forrest believes that the opening half of the season has to be viewed in its entirety.

Rodgers’ side have a place in the Europa League to look forward to in February while they have also bagged the League Cup and hold a commanding lead at the top of the table. Forrest said: “There is still the same buzz – it is incredible.

“Players, staff and everyone connected with the club are all delighted with the way the first half of the season has gone.

“We’ve hit all our goals so far and to finish it off with a win on Saturday would be great.

“Last year was the same but this time we are still in Europe. That is a big bonus and it is a big push when we go back. ”

Forrest’s goal against Dundee was his 50th for the club and the player is determined to kick on in the latter half of the campaign.

“The manager just wants us to keep it going,” he said. “I was told that [about the goal] and I am buzzing with that. I want to score more.”
