Josephs hits 33 as Rocks thud Leeds

- By MARK WOODS

KOFI JOSEPHS fired 33 points as Glasgow Rocks blitzed Leeds Force 125-91 to stay in the thick of the BBL title race.

A 9-0 run in the first half put the league’s basement side to the sword and even though the Rocks were short-handed, they turned the screw by converting 17 three-pointers.

And with Bulgarian forward Boris Matrakov adding 20 points and 10 rebounds in a rare start, the hosts surged clear in the fourth quarter to move within four points of second-placed Newcastle.

“It was always going to be a game we should win but we wanted to key in on a couple of things to improve on,” said Glasgow’s stand-in coach Darryl Wood.

Scottish centre Chris Cleary had 12 points on his debut.

“It was as solid a first game as you could have wanted,” said Wood.

Caledonia Pride beat Cardiff Archers 71-66 in an overtime thriller to move into seventh place in the WBBL with American centre Tricia Oakes notching 21 points and 11 rebounds.
